Excel 2024: Get the Countries from a Column of Phone Numbers

Someone had a long list of international telephone numbers. They asked if there is a formula to figure out the country from the phone number. It turns out that Country Codes are complicated. Some are a single digit. Some are 2 or 3 digits. Sometimes, two countries have the same country code and then you have to look at the country code plus area code to figure out, for example, if it is the USA or Canada.
The formula uses five different VLOOKUPs and five lookup tables that each use a named range.
Tip
Set the zoom to 39% or less to see the range names in the grid.
While the system is unwieldy, download the workbook for this chapter and you will have a formula that can identify the country for each phone number.
