I just discovered Apples's AppStore a few months ago.
It is such a revelation for me, that I seriously consider going back to Apple, after 20 years!
I am particularly impressed by how easy AppStore makes it to sell applications without caring too much for the commercial aspects. Really fit for free-lance developpers or hobbyists!

Would you know if there are also easy ways to sell XL spreadsheets?
XL is what I know the best, and I really would have fun selling some good spreadsheets,
if at least selling was as easy as on AppStore.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
You can sell workbooks, but the issue you have is lack of control once the end-user gets it because Excel protection is so weak. If you have that in mind, then it's no problem. If you're going through the App store then you can't have any VBA involved, but a lot of times a simple template is all someone needs.

I'd take a look at Diet Trackers, Household Budgets, etc. I have Documents to Go on my iPhone and it works about as well as you'd expect something to work on a phone.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what it takes to get listed on the AppStore, but I can ask if you want (I do Excel training for Apple).

Good luck!

Thanks a lot Smitty, for these good information.
I do not plan to jump on that idea very soon.
Maybe with time all these things will change and become obvious.

The spreadsheets I am thinking of would be rather sophisticated, involving VBA or even more probably some VSTO development. These are more like applications using Excel as user-interface and tool.
This is likely not AppStore compatible.
However, it is more like an application build around Excel, and therefore the protection would be more important for the software than for the workbooks.

I am thinking since some time about switching to Apple, and I will continue to think about it!
Microsoft Office is likely to pull me back to Windows!
