Hi,

I am trying to format a graph so that the x and y axis are identical to a Cartesian plain. So the Y axis crosses the X axis at the origin.

It seems that I can't get this to work.

I tried highlighting the Y axis and going to properties, then changing the min and max from auto to fixed. This solved the range for the Y axis, but I could not find a similar option in properties for the x axis.

The properties under the x - axis have the option:
Vertical axis crosses:
At category number: "0"

I put in "0" but it always changes it back to "1" and it doesn't move the location of the y axis to the 0 value on the x axis.

I am using excel 2010, does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks

Excel Facts

Formula for Yesterday
Name Manager, New Name. Yesterday =TODAY()-1. OK. Then, use =YESTERDAY in any cell. Tomorrow could be =TODAY()+1.
Hmm . . . I can't replicate this.

When I try plotting some random numbers in a XY chart, I don't get the "At category number" option, the only options are Automatic, Axis Value, or Maximum Axis value, which all work as expected.

What type of data are you using, in particular on the X axis ?
And what type of chart have you got ?

You've got yourself a line chart. The X axis in a line chart is not a numerical axis; it treats X values as nonnumeric (text) labels.

Make an XY Scatter chart. Here the X axis works just like the Y axis. You can format the series in a line chart and a scatter chart the same: with or without markers, with or without connecting lines.
