X Axis Dates Not Displaying

I have a simple three column sheet where the rows represent dates. The dates are not in perfect calendar intervals (12/31/15, 12/30/16, 12/29/17) but when I create a graph the axis displays the dates as 12/01/15, 12/01/16, 12/01/17.

I have tried setting the axis type to "Text axis" but that does not work. It seems to cram all the labels into the left margin of a text box and it also moves the data points proportionately to the left.

This problem is much-discussed on the web, but I can't find the solution. Format Text Axis does not solve the problem.

Thanks,

J

Excel Facts

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.
This is what I get using your dates.
