My employer has just given me carte blanche to order a workstation to run Powerpivot on.
My typical database will consist of 1 million rows+ and I need to be compatible with an excel 2010 environment.

I was thinking of a core i7 system with 8gb mem with 64 os and office. Also SSD.

is this overkill?
are there other issues to consider?
is it worth it to switch to Office2013?

Excel motto
Not everything I do at work revolves around Excel. Only the fun parts.
If you need the models to be compatible with 2010, don't switch to 2013.
