About 2 weeks ago I noticed that the status bar in Excel isn't showing percent complete for workbook calculations on the status bar. For large workbooks it was nice to see if Excel was hanging or actually calculating. Is that a feature that can be turned off and on? Is this a change in the latest version of Excel?

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
I still get that. Do you have macros that modify the status bar?

Sometimes I have macros add something to the status bar, but when it's finished I set the status bar to false so it clears. 99% of my Excel sessions don't change the status bar.

In that case I'm not sure why you don't get the calculation state appearing.
I don't know of any settings that can turn it off.
