Work with a List

I have a sheet in my workbook that contains a list of data. I want to go through the list find out how many time a similar items appear in the list. for example:

oi
pq
25
18
oi
18
aa

I want excel to go through the list and tell me how many of each one I have. Like here I have two 18s two oi. Can that be automated. I tried count. I think that only works with numbers

Hi, try using a Pivot Table, having your field as both a 'Row field' and 'Data field'
