Good afternoon

Can someone help me just a couple of word questions.

First Question

I have created a document with my own contents page and therefore have my own page numbers on the document.

I have bookmarked each heading on each page back to the contents page using a hyperlink.

If I add, delete or add information to a current page is there a way that the contents page automatically updates?

Second Question

How do you start the page numbering on current page no.4? I want the page numbering to start after the front cover sheet and my two other contents page?

Can this be done.

Thanks for looking and hope you can help,

Simon

Hi midfieldgeneral11,

You're not using Word effectively.

Using Word's inbuilt Heading Styles (the format of which you can modify to suit your needs), Word can build and maintain a Table of Contents (TOC) quite easily - via Insert|Field|Table of Contents. Such a TOC will automatically update (upon a Print Preview, for example) to reflect additions to/deletions from/relocation of the document headings, or changes in heading level. TOC fields also permit hyperlinking to the various headings.

To force the page numbering to start in the footer of the 4th page:
. go to the end of the 3rd page and-
. delete any existing page break
. insert a 'Next Page' Section Break (via Insert|Break)
. on the 4th page-
. open the page footer (View|Header and Footoer) and click on the 'Same as previous' button on the header/footer toolbar to unlink the footer from the previous Section
. click on the 'insert page number' icon
. click on the 'format page number' icon and set the numbering to start at 1.
The above instructions are for Word 97-2003. If you're using Word 2007, the menus you'll use are different but the process is otherwise the same.
