word = a number help please

hi excel experts

i have a dropdown list of 3 words "one", "two" & "three" if i click on "one" my formula in "A1" Must think it is "1"

i need a formula or vba that will help me do this

one = 1

please help me out

You can use a LOOKUP() function at that point in your formula. For instance, if you wanted to multiply the value in A1 by B1, and B1 is ONE/TWO/THREE, then this would be the result:

=A1 * LOOKUP(B1, {"one","three","two"}, {1,3,2})

Notice the list is alphabetized?

=IF(B3="one",1,IF(B3="two",2,3))
