Windows glitch, now Excel behaving oddly. Can't format some cells, showing formulae instead of results

I was working on my laptop this morning, when Excel began behaving oddly. I was stuck in a mode where any cell I selected remained selected, as if I had the CTRL key permanently pressed. All of my column widths were also suddenly increased.

I found that other Windows apps were also behaving oddly. I wondered if I had accidentally engaged some "accessibility" mode, where the inputs are altered for people with disabilities. However, I checked those settings in the Control Panel and didn't see anything activated.

A reboot cured the problem, but my spreadsheet is mangled. Some cells which contain formulae are showing the formulae instead of the results, and I cannot format some cells. Text is lower left, and I can't center it. It had previously been centered horizontally and vertically.

Any ideas? I need to get my spreadsheet back in my control!

SOLVED: "Show Formulas" was checked. Interesting - I had not even been on that tab - EVER in Excel 2010 - so I know I didn't hit that button accidentally.

I'd delete this post, but I don't see an option for that.

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
FYI, the shortcut key for that is Ctrl+` so perhaps you hit that in error?
