Why Is Spreadsheet So Large?

What are some common tricks for reducing file size of Excel spreadsheets?

I have this report which takes forveer to open and it didn't use to. There are no pictures or anything in there and I can't figure out why it's so large.

And you can do a board search for "bloat"; it's a pretty common theme. In fact, I reduced a 4.4Mb workbook to 430Kb yesterday by just eliminating unused ranges and redundant formulas.
