Hi all.

I have created a simple excel file, with very rudimentary formulas.

It so happens that every time I open this file on my laptop it just drags and drags for ages.

I mean, I know the laptop is a tad old being 7 years old but still, I use it for everything else. It has been upgraded recently with a SSD and it runs smooth.

That is, until I open this one excel file.

So, I decided due to work and in order to release my home laptop, so that the misses can use it for her things, to buy a second hand on eBay.

I got myself a lovely Lenovo ThinkPad T410, Pentium i5 2.6Ghz with 4GB ram. It's lovely and works for all things I want, even my new excel projects, which you guys have been helping along.

But again, this one file, just tried it today on this laptop, not only it takes over 5 minutes to open, it also freezes the laptop, causes excel to not respond.

What on earth is Microsoft doing? This is a merrily 50K excel file I created.

The laptop has windows 10 installed from scratch with office 2013.

Any ideas guys?

Cheers

P.S: I forgot to say that most fields on this spreadsheet have a serial number of equipment that is inputed via a hand held scanner. Could this be why?

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.

I've never run into this, I think.

But, things you could try:
Excel's safe mode with that file.
Copying the data into a new workbook.
SaveAs the workbook into a potentially newer format.
Turning off autocalculate and seeing if that speeds up the opening of the file.
Making sure that the file isn't trying to open any network connections (which could hang the system).
"Cleaning" the cells of any extra input or invisible characters (maybe the scanner is adding some stuff?).
