Why I'm not impressed with Powerpivot

Someone on another board posted a question on how to produce financial statements using powerpivot, in particular how to calculate sub totals and get the hierarchy correct. The solution it seems is documented here:
Alberto Ferrari : PowerPivot and Parent/Child hierarchies

Now ignoring the SQL code bit and assuming we construct the table by hand, the problem of removing redundant levels, sorting it the way you want etc. is ridiculously hard in Powerpivot. I guess it's just not meant to be used as a reporting engine and I should either use SSRS or goto Excel 2013 and use Powerview?

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
