Why CHAR(9) does not display a gap/tab?

Why CHAR(9) does not display a gap/tab?
I want to indent the text in some cells, how can I do that?

Better thing to do is Use Text Alignment - Left Indent - Choose 1 or 2. This will format numbers and text.
