why (0001,0001) becomes -10001

Hi Experts,

I tried to enter (0001,0001) into an excel cell. The excel displayed the value as -10001. The cell needs to be "(0001,0001)". Any idea?

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
Precede your entry with double quotes
Also check the cell's formatting

Precede your entry with a single apostrophe or format the cell as Text before typing or pasting in the cell or custom format as 0000","####
