PQ queries and the data model are located separately and are separate entities.
PQ is located inside the data tab in the "Get data" array of buttons.
When using PQ the checkbox "Add this data to the data model" adds the tables to the relational data model. This is an alternative to simply merging two or more queries and creating another table. For this reason, it's more memory efficient to make relational data models and is considered best practice. However the option to simply create the connection and/or view that query in a table separates it from the Data Model.
To access the Data Model go to the power pivot tab and click the green "Manage" button
