Where did the Close Program choice in Task Manager go?

Hi, I've encountered this a few times and haven't found anything online about it. My Excel hung just now and when I go to Task Manager there is no option to close the program. The only options are Restart or Wait.

I don't want to restart Excel. That will take longer and it will try to recover and I don't want that. I want to close it, then open it myself, then see what happened.

Why did MS take away this option? Is there any way I can close the program without restart and recover?

I think I'm using Windows 7 and Office 2013, but unfortunately the options where I could confirm that - right click on the desktop and go to Properties, click on Help and go to About - have also been taken away. MS has no respect for its users.

Sorry I'm so cranky. Any help is appreciated! :)

Thanks Mole. :) I have the Task Manager open. The thing is, when I click End Task, it does not give me an option to close the program. The only options are Restart and Wait.

Is there another way to close a program that's hanging?

I click End Task ... And there is no option to close the program.

The only options are
1. Restart program with recover, etc.
2. Wait for program to respond

I want to just close it and there is no option to do that... Been using Windows since the 90's and there was always a Close option, until now...

So Excel has been hanging again while I eat lunch, and I just tried both of these.

Right-click gave me End Task, which led me back to the same place with no Close option.
Alt-F4 did nothing.

I suppose my employer has changed Windows to eliminate these options.
If they want me to spend time waiting for restart and recover, well, they are paying for the time...
(sigh) When it comes to MS I feel lucky to get anything done.

Thanks for your help. :)
