Oh, no - when Excel shows the formula, not the result. There are two things that can happen.
Right here, I'm going to alt equals. That should put a sum function in there, but instead of giving me the answer it gives me the formula.
Look up here on the Home tab, it was formatted as text.
You got to change it to general. But that doesn't fix it.
You have to press F2, Enter to re enter the formula.
Or the other thing that happens, someone accidentally pressed control and the grave accent.
It's easy to do, it's near control+tab on US keyboards anyway.
Grave accent and tilde are on the same key. When this happens, you see every single formula in the sheet at once. Dates appear as the serial number instead of the date. To get out, you could either come to Formulas and turn off Show Formulas. Or it's a toggle Contrl and the Grave Accent will toggle in and out.
