I have an excel workbook using external query to extract data into the worksheet. I want to edit the query, and I can select "Data > get External Data > Edit Query". The MS-Query display comes up, and the data area populates with teh extracted data. But i cannot change any of the query parameters (add criteria, add tabkles, etc). All these options are greyed out.
I can view the SQL, make changes directly in the SQL, and these changes will apply, but I cannot make any changes through MS-Query menus or icons.
In Query's Edit Options, the box "Disable ability to edit query results" is unchecked.
Anyone have any idea why I cannot edit this query?
I can't see anything different about this query compared to any other query I use. This (inability to edit) does not happen on all queries, just on some.
FWIW, it is querying an AS/400 through ODBC connection, joining thre files, and doing some selections on 4 fields. The query was created through Excel Data Query. I am running Excel 2000 and Win/XP Pro
