Wanting to categorize raw data by category and month (google sheets)

I'm trying to assist my daughter who has asked me how to get raw data categorized by category and month.

Here's a sample. Given:

Given a long list of data with about 35 categories in columns A-C, how do I get a monthly table like on the right side?

I don't use Google Sheets, but I am sure that you have the option to create a Pivot Table to achieve this.

Hello and thanks.

I tried a pivot table and suspect the solution will use one but when I created one, I added category and date as rows and the amount as value. I added a pivot group in dates which game me:

and I admit that that is close but am hoping I can do the date amounts in the same way as the example.

FYI - when I attempt to add dates to 'Columns' in the pivot table editor, it collapses the data and cel A1 says #ERROR!
I ensured my date data was formatted as dates but that did not help.

I was able to resolve this. I used a filter on dates so only one date shown and then added date to columns, selected the pivot group of month, and then cleared the filter.
