Hi,

I have a simple vlookup formula which links to another file.

If I close the file and go back into it, instead of showing the path to the external file as...

Vlookup(A1,'M:\ABC\XYZ\example.xls

It shows....

'Vlookup(A1,'\\serverdetail\severdetail\ABC\XYZ\example.xls.

When I try to update links it doesnt recognise the file or if I open it manually it doesnt recognise that I have it open.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
Which version of Excel are you using, because I can't reproduce that behaviour in Excel 2000 (the path doesn't change to a UNC)?

My disk/folder references stay OK and don't change to UNC. Is there something that you are doing that you haven't told us about?

Do you always open your files from within Excel by pointing to the mapping drive rather than at a UNC? I would imagine that launching from a UNC in an Explorer window would confuse Excel.
