Vlookup combine with an IF statement?

Hi i need to search a spreadsheet and retrieve data based on whatever i enter into a cell. Does this make sense

So if i enter 5 in the cell in question i would like a formula that would seach a specific column, say A, on a spread sheet and whereever Colum A contained a 5 retrieve the corresponding value in that row from column D.

I would like to be able to change the number i'm searching for without changing the formula. So I think it would be better to have fixed on a cell that i can enter my chosen search criteria into.

this is prob really simple just seem to be going in circles with it

Thanks, that worked but on doing it realised i hadn't fully desrcribed the whole proces

basically There will be multiple entries with the contents of B1, so i would like to list them vertically if possibe? Does that make sense?

So if B1 contained a 5 i would like a list of all 5's(column A) with corresponding Column D figure?
