This may Sound A Little Stupid but I Am going to assume That Visual Studio 2010 Replaced Visual Basic 2008, I am wanting to learn how to use and right code I want to start with the newest stuff

Excel Facts

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
I haven't heard about 2010 being a major new step in Visual Studio releases (I could be wrong) so my opinion is not to worry about changing it if you already have the 2008 version - especially if your goal is learning the fundamentals, you should be fine. Of course, there's nothing wrong if you do get the newest version of VS! You can also use the Express Edition for free - but it's nice to have the office tools if you are interested in Excel.

I'm not sure about purchases. What's your ultimate aim? Is this for professional software development or just for your own use?

Visual Basic is a language. Visual Studio is a development environment that supports several languages, including VB.Net.

If you are starting out, how about web development, then. ;) Make some $$. Visual Studio supports about 50 languages I guess - you can use it to program with VB.NET, C#.NET, C++, and many others. If you get Visual Studio you get the Office Development tools that let you hook into Excel, Word, Outlook to create office solutions. You could probably start out with the free version to get your feet wet, unless you want the office tools - I think you need full blown Visual Studio then. Google VSTO for more info on the office development side of VS.
