While typing in a cell, there are automatic vertical lines between each latter. The lines disappear when exiting the cell. This started happening recently. Please help, this is driving me nuts. Microsoft Office 2010 (I had to paste the image, sorry about the resolution)

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
That.... is very strange. Have you had any recent changes to your computer? Does the issue persist through a reboot?

Reboot doesn't solve the issue. I am working on a new desktop. Perhaps that is the issue, but it seems to be Excel related. When I type in other formatted cells it does not do this. I've never seen this before and have been working with Excel for 13 years.

Nor have I - it appears to be the text cursor that is ghosting while typing. I'm trying to google around to find a fix, but I've only been able to find a couple of instances where someone else has reported a similar issue, but no fix was ever posted.

Try going to File>Options>Advanced and toggling the checkbox for "Disable hardware graphics acceleration". I wonder if it's just artifacts from GPU processing.

SOLVED
I think it was the GPU processor. I pulled up the Excel file with same desktop on a different monitor and no lines. The lines were appearing 4k monitor and had resolution set at 1920 x 1080. I set resolution to 3840 x 2160 and the lines are gone. It would appear to be an issue with display resolution. Good to know. Thanks for replies and looking for me. I appreciate it.

Awesome - glad you got it sorted out! I had a hunch it was GPU related, but knowing for sure what it was will definitely help out any people who have a similar issue in the future.

Have a good weekend, and thanks for the feedback. :)
