Yes I have tried that but it does not work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but do I need to combine this scatter diagram with a bar diagram with those two points?

Would you be able to illustrate it on the uploaded file?

Hi

No. Just add the new series that is also scatter.

In the ribbon Chart Tools->Design->Select Data add the new series with just those 2 points.

So I have added the two points but naturally as this is a scatter diagram, I only get two points on the graph rather than a line.

No, there are 5 types of scatter charts:

Scatter with only Markers
Scatter with Straight Lines
Scatter with Straight Lines and Markers
Scatter with Smooth Lines
Scatter with Smooth Lines and Markers

You are using the first one and you should be using the second or the third (depending on whether you want to see the markers)

Right-click on one of the markers and choose

Change series chart type...

and select the type you want.
