I am new to VBA and want to learn how to use teh language. Can anyone provide me with a great beginners site?

Welcome to the Board!

Do a Google search for "Free VBA Tutorial". You'll get plenty.

The fastest way to get started is to use the Macro Recorder though. It will give you an idea of how VBA works, just note that the recorder also captures relatively erroneous information like screen navigation, and relies heavily on "Select" structures, which are almost always unnecessary. The VBA Helpfile is also a good resource.

And if you ever have a question, post here. Some of the best VBA'rs in the world lurk here.

There is a Training Program over at www.vbaexpress.com which is a site run by some Mr. Excel members, but it's a paid program.

There are also good books out there, in fact Bill Jelen (Mr. Excel) has a new one out that's devoted to VBA.

Hope that helps,

Smitty

This site is a great place with any questions you may have about VBA for Excel and Access.

What I would recommend is getting a good tutorial book, and start from there. My personal favorite is "Excel 2000 VBA: Programmer's Reference", by John Green (Wrox Press), but there are many good books, some right from Mr. Excel.

Check out this part of the Mr. Excel site for book discussions:

Just a minor bit of clarification on that: That section of the board is for discussing MrExcel books--not Excel/VBA books in general.

The forum for asking for book suggestions and general book discussion is the one your post is currently in; "Excel Discussion & Other Questions."

Oops, sorry Kristy!

Didn't we used to have a link to recommended books? I thought we did, but I couldn't locate it.

No biggie :-D

As for the link: I vaguely remember something like that being around, but I have no clue where it would be. I doubt it would really matter, though. A search for book recommendations should turn up a ton of results even if there were (is?) a dedicated thread for such a thing ;)

Edit: There is this, though:
