VBA - Matching Values Dilemma

Hi everybody,

I am trying to write a macro that goes through column C (data below), finds a matching date in column A, and then compares values B and D. If there is no corresponding date in column A, I need the macro to return that. If the values don't match, I need the macro to say so.

The dates in either column will always be in order of oldest to newest, but the two columns may skip different dates. There are thousands of lines in the database.

I am thinking that a vlookup might work for this but I don't know where to start...can anybody offer advice?

Thanks so much for your help!

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
You could do this with code, but I suspect the loop required would take forever to run. Why not first eliminate the ones where no match is found. You can us CF or a helper column to find and remove them. Your Choice?? Then your list, when sorted should match row for row fo an easy comparison via formula!!

I think your idea of eliminating the ones where no date is found first is a great idea. I'm not sure what you mean by helper column and I don't know what CF is. Do you have any time to provide a bit more detail on how to do this?

Thanks so much for the help already!

Insert a new Column B. If your Data starts in A2, enter in B2
Code:
=IF(COUNTIF(D:D,A2)=0,"Not Found","OK")
Note that your Column C is now Column D. Drag B2 down and the Filter for "Not Found". Delete the cells in Columns "A" and "B" that are visible. DO NOT delete the entire row. Remove Filter and delete Column "B" Repeat for Column "C" dates, reversing the formula
Code:
=IF(COUNTIF(A:A,C2)=0,"Not Found","OK")

Lenze - that's a fantastic solution...I'm going to code it up right now.

Thanks for the formula and the pseudo-code. Much appreciated!
