Excel Facts

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
Only guesses I have are:

Where are you seeing the keys vanish? When viewing the form? Could the field be too small to display it?

After the form directly in the table?
Open up the Form code module and look for any code that might reference either the field in the table directly OR the field within the form (if it's linked to the table)

Could something be altering the value?

What are you using for a Front end? A split AccessDB with linked tables?

Another question would be:

What is the Source of the Front End?
If it is a Query from 2 tables and NOT a single Table direct
try running the query to see which data is missing.
It may be that the data in the Tables is not marrying because the links are not there.

eg. an employer's id changes but it it not reflected in both tables (not to clever for design but it does happen)

the primary keys are actually vanishing from the back end Db

say i have my key set as the product ID then open and close the front end go back to the back end and the key will have gone from the product id

very odd
