Am I wrong, or did Excel use tabbed windows in the past? I have Excel 2016 and all workbooks open in new windows. Wasn't the (old) default behavior tab based? Is there a way to get it back?

Excel Facts

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
No. With Excel 2013 it switched from the old Multiple Document Interface (MDI) to Single Document Interface (SDI) and you can't change that. It was actually, I believe, largely based on user requests due to the prevalence of multiple monitor setups.

RoryA, if it was easy to do, I'm sure MS would have made choosing between MDI and SDI a setting.

Thanks for the quick reply and explanation.
