upto 1, 2, 3 digits

I went to Format Cell -> Fraction and I saw the first 3 options.

1) Upto 1 digit
2) Upto 2 digits
3) upto 3 digits

I entered in a cell this value 1.1 and formatted 3 cells as above, so i got this

What does upto 1,2,3 digits means and why in this case upto 2 and 3 are the same. Thank you very much.

is the clue if the examples are not enough.

Excel simplifies (hate the word "reduce") the fractions. So, it won't show you 1 2/20 because simplified it's 1 1/10.

So 1 1/5 (5 is 1 digit that is called upto 1)

1 4/19 (19 is 2 digit that is why it is called upto 2)

1 23/109 (109 is 3 that is why it is called upto 3)

Am I right?

Yes, upto means demoninator upto that many digits.

Here, we get all one digit though the last two are 2 and 3 digits, upto.
1.2 1 1/5 1 1/5 1 1/5

If it were to show 2 and 3 digits in the case above, it would have to also increase the value of the numerator and those would not be common fractions.
