For excel or access.....

I have an Ryzen 5 3600....

Will a Ryzen 9 5900x help in speeding up these applications?

I do have an Excel Sheet with over 250,000 lines and 3 tables of info...it takes me well over 2 mins to open...

I have the same in Access but that opens in a wink...

Should I upgrade?

Waterfall charts in Excel?
Office 365 customers have access to Waterfall charts since late 2016. They were added to Excel 2019.
I know diddly about hardware, but when it comes to software I can tell you that you would benefit greatly by updating to Excel 365. It has a new calculation engine that is orders-of-magnitude more efficient. It is much faster, it has several new functions that are immensely powerful, and it uses dynamic array technology.

365 is on your PC just like any other version. :)

With over250,000 rows of data, you be be better off using a database. I doubt that using a different computer will make a lot of difference.

Yep, that tells you right there which is the better tool for the project!

General rule of thumb: Relational Database Models work better in relational database programs, like Microsoft Access or SQL.
Though you can brute force Excel and try to use it as a relational database, it is not what it is designed to do, and performance can really take a hit as your data grows.

Note that the "Power Query" tool in Excel makes it easier to do database-type operations in Excel.
I haven't really used it much myself (as I use Access for databases), but there is a forum for it here (Power Tools).
