Updating a record in a Subform

We have a form in an Access 97 database. On this form, we have a subform, which has a query as its record source. We can update records on this subform. To be honest, we are not sure why it is letting us do this; usually we get a message that says,"Recordset not Updateable" when we try to update a query through a subform. We then tried to use this subform and query in an Access 2000 database. When we try to update a record using this subform in Access 2000, we get the "Recordset not Updateable" message. Does anybody know why this happening? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If your subforms are being displayed in datasheet view, then you will be able to edit an the recordset it is bound to, just like it were a table or updateable query.

When you can't edit, you ar most likely grouping records, so your attempt to edit a record might actually be an attempt to edit several records. Also, calculated fields can not be edited, obviosuly.

Try setting the 'unique records' property of the query to 'True'. This will attempt to limit your query results to unique records from the included tables, but is not fool-proof. If you have an elaborate chain of queries on queries, anything along the way could be causing the recordset to not be updateable, so start with the first query and test the chain one by one (if applicable, hoepfully the unique-records=True will take care of it)
