Updateable Query

I have a database that connects to an outside 'Table of Incidents' and each Incident has a unique Incident Numer.

I created another table that with the same Incident Number field and several other fields not in the original outside table.

If I create a query with these two tables, linking by Incident Number, and just including fields from my internal table, it's not updateable...I tried playing with the Recordset Type property but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Is this not possible?
