I have a workbook containing a single worksheet. When I originally created it I locked specific cells to prevent overwriting. I the protected the workbook with a password. I no longer want the workbook to be protected so I ulocked all the cells and pressed Unprotect for both the workbook and the worksheet. Despite this Excel still demands a password before I can open it. I have followed all the instructions but it is still protecte. Is ther something I have missed?

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I have to provide a password to open the workbook, even though I hae unprotected it.

Exactly that is what I'm talking about

There are two types of Protection in Excel
One is on worksheet - Partial or complete (that you told you have unprotected in OP)
Then is Workbook protection - to prevent unknown person from opening it - You have to remove that too...

Hope it helps you

Thanks again. I couldn't find the option you mention, but after I changed the protection to Read Only the protection was removed. Somehow I then removed Read Only so the workbook is now no longer protected.

Read Only - That is what I was trying to explain, that sheet is protected either to open or edit.

Glad that finally you found your way to sort things out.
