I have a blank space on the first page of my spreadsheet, between the formula bar and the first row (see picture below). I don’t know what it is, where it came from, or how to get rid of it. On the left side there are three boxes labled 1,2,3. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

On the Ribbon, go to Data > Outline > Ungroup. See if that closes it.

On the Ribbon, go to Data > Outline > Ungroup.
Just before you do that I would suggest clicking that + button above column T (and any other + buttons you might have across the top) to see what is behind, just in case you do want the ability to expand/collapse the relevant columns.

Also, if you do what is suggested in post 2, I think that you will first need to select across those hidden columns or else click 'Clear Outline' in the 'Ungroup' drop-down on that Data ribbon tab

Clicking on the "+" just produces a "-" along with a line, clicking that it goes back to the plus box. Now I have two boxes?

It didn't just produce a - and a line, it also unhid several columns. In your image in post 1 column T is right alongside column I. That means columns J to S were hidden. Having pressed the + your latest image shows that those columns are now visible. The + and - boxes allow a quick way to hide or unhide a group of columns.

Somebody has set that hide/unhide ability up on your worksheet, it doesn't happen by itself. However, if you do not want it then proceed as per the second part of post 3.

Thank you Peter, problem solved, knowing that the blank space is associated with the Hide/Unhide function was the answer. I selected the entire spreadsheet, selected unhide, and cleared the outline in the “ungroup” menu, the box is gone. Thanks again
