Hello, I am new to this forum and hope someone can help me to understand how the Networkdays result is being calculated in my project.

I have created a calendar that uses the date function to store and display the day only value in a pictorial calendar.

Here is the start date - April 29, 2017

Here is the end date - May 5, 2017

I want to display the number of workdays between 4/29/2017 and 5/5/2017 - my expectation is to see the number "5"

However the result I get is -17.

I have no idea why. Can anybody help me?

Excel Facts

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
Code:
=NETWORKDAYS(DATEVALUE("April 29, 2017"),DATEVALUE("May 5, 2017"))
Yields 5 for me.

@susaneey:

You are getting -17 because your formula is essentially =NETWORKDAYS(29,5).

Instead of using =DAY(DATE(yyyy,mm,dd)), try just entering a date and custom-formatting the cell as d.
