Dear Team,

I am trying to write stress data from Ansys workbench to an excel (.csv) file, if Ansys gives stress values in decimal (for example 280.003526 in 4th column in the attached file) then the same is not retrieved in excel instead excel is converting the value to an integer. Also to mention, I have used APDL command snippet to automatically write the data from an array into an excel. And if I had to change manually then it would be a hectic work keeping in mind several number of files. To add, the same data retrieved into a text file is as expected. Hence, there is an issue with the excel, kindly suggest how to overcome this issue.

Best Regards,
Shravani

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
That does not seem like an excel problem. If I create a .csv file with 280.003526 and open it with Excel, I see 280.003526. I recommend using a text editor like NotePad to inspect the .csv file you are importing.

D1 shows 2 decimal places 28.003.526
What are your system settings for number separators?
What result do you expect?

Hello Dave,

1, I am trying to write stress results from ANSYS Workbench into an excel using APDL commands, in doing so I am able to generate the data correctly in a text file (text_result file attached) but when I am trying to get the data into an excel (.csv) there is a formatting issue (please see the attached screenshot (excel_formatting file)).

2, My requirement is to get the data into an excel file in the same way that is shown in the text file.

3, I checked the system settings for number separators and it is "," . Even I tried to change the number separator to "." but there is no change in the result.

4, D1 shows 2 decimal places 28.003.526 and when the cell is selected it is an integer (hope you got my point)

Kindly suggest what all changes I can make to get the required result.

Regards,
Shravani

Hello Dave,

Thanks for your hint to check the settings :) I just tried to change the settings in excel (attached screenshot) instead of the system settings for the number separator and it worked. The result is as expected.

Many thanks:)

Regards,
Shravani
