I want to remove the data connection preset inside the Excel 2003 file, but I still cant delete it permanently. Everytime I delete it and close it, it will be back again when I open it again.

I even follow some tips such as http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/excel-questions/467938-remove-workbook-connections.html but I still cannot find the defined name in the Name Manager. So how will I delete the connection? I even follow every available method but I still cannot get rid of the connectionstring.

Apparently, the file was given by my supervisor so I need to remove the connection before I can use it for my OfficeWriter coding. Any idea on how to remove the connection without a defined name?

Excel Facts

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.
Hi, oh sorry i did not make myself clear again. Yes it is a link to an external file, which is a Microsoft database (.mdf). I want to remove it but not to avail. Any solution on this?

Did you try my suggestion - Click connections on the Data tab and remove it from there?

Hi

Edit Links refers to formula references - this appears to be a connection - which is different.

What version of Excel are you using? If you are using a version with the ribbon, there is a connection control on the Data tab. See image below:
