Too Many Columns

I have a worksheet that has hundreds of columns to the right of the columns I use. It causes problems and I would like to permanently delete those columns and many rows so that when I push Ctrl + End the last cell in the worksheet is not referenced. Is it possible to permanently delete columns and rows and not have excel remember that those were used in the past?

Thank you, Ed Stockton

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
If you hold down ctrl and shift when pressing the arrow after highlighting the first row/column you don't want to keep it will highlight everything to the right/below and you can delete. Then the scroll bar should only go as far as what remains.

sheetspread, thanks for your response. It did work, but I had to follow your procedure, then close and reopen the workbook before the results took effect.
