Tips for getting started with excel

Hey all! This is the first time posting here and I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place. I just wanted to ask what are some recommendations on getting started with excel? I recently bought the book Excel 2013 bible and I've been trying to read through it but I am having a hard time. I tend to do better when I'm actively working on something.

I'm a Business Finance major and I've been told from the people in the industry that having a deep understanding of excel is a HUGE plus.

Mike Girvin has written an outstanding book titled Slaying Excel Dragons. This book is also available in DVD form. The book is for beginners to intermediate users. I think is outstanding because of the simple way Mike explains things and the practice problems. The book and DVD are available from MrExcel Store and from Amazon. Mike also has a YouTube channel ExcelIsFun - YouTube which has over 2,000 videos on using Excel.
