Hi, I just went through this process with a client who upgraded from Access 97. For some reason, Microsoft have made the MDE creation process more convoluted than before. This is what worked for me:
1. Save the file in Access 2002 format (Access 2000 format cannot be converted to MDE) [This was documented but I had to dig]
2. Go into the code and compile it. If you get any errors, fix them. [This was not documented]
3. This helps create a smaller file: Compact and Repair the database.
4. Now, go to Tools | Database Utilities. If Create MDE is available, you can proceed. If not, close the database (leave Access open) and try again. You will be prompted for a file to convert. All going well, in a minute or sos you will have an MDE file.
Hope this helps --
