Alright, thanks for joining us for yet another Excel podcast.
Today we're going to talk about the recently used file list, that's the list of files at the bottom of the file menu.
You choose File, usually in Excel you'll see the last 4 files that you open.
Well that's great if you only work in 4 different files, but what if you have more files?
It would be really useful if the recently used file list could show us more, it turns out that it is possible to do, if we go to the Tools menu, and then choose Options.
Options dialog is one of the most difficult in all of Excel, because there's 13 different tabs here, but it turns out that what we need is the General tab.
General tab is the 4th one along the bottom row of tabs, and there's an option there for the recently used file list, and when Excel is installed, it's set up to show just the most recent 4 files.
Well, use the spin button to kick that up to the maximum, which happens to be 9.
Click OK, and you would think that all of a sudden we're going to see the last nine files in the file list.
But we don't, it still only shows you 4, you'll have to open a few more files manually to have those added to the list.
There we have 5, as you open more files, you'll eventually have 9, and it will always show the last 9 files.
That's the recently used file list, thanks for watching today, check back tomorrow for another tip from MrExcel!
