Time stamped attendance for students using barcodes and excel

I am so frustrated right now. Does someone have a recommendation for a way to easily take time-based attendance with excel using a barcode scanner. I cannot seem to find a system that generates and then easily converts to use with excel. This is for students in afterschool so free is important. lol
