Time Difference Calculation

I need a formula that will calculate the difference between 2 times and allow the answer to be used in a second formula.

Image this - cell A1 6:00pm (start time) and cell B1 7:30pm (finish time). Answer goes in cell C1. Next, cell C1 is multiplied by a standard rate and the answer shown in cell D1.

I am using Excel XP.

You might look up the DateDiff function in the help for ideas. There is also a Day360 function.

DateDiff function is good for dates but doesnt seem to work for hours. Any other thoughts?
