Thousand Separator

I have data which needs to be formatted with a thousand separator as below.
400.00
1,000.00
250,000.00

how can I do this without it displaying as below
,400.00
I do not want it reflected in the case of hundreds.

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
I have selected the custom type #'##0.00, but this produces any figure in the 100's with a preceding ' which i don't want. How do i avoid this if the figure is only 100.00
