I set Excel at startup (via File->Options->Advanced->General) to open all files in a folder F:\Excel Startup, which contains the binary file Personal.xlsb and nothing else.

Recently I get this error trying to open any Excel file -
A document with the name 'Personal.xlsb' is already open...

But this file is not open as I verified 2 ways. It's not listed in Task Manager, and when I log into my Cloud account there is no error when I open an Excel file.

Any suggestions why my local account is confused?

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
Check C:\users\name\AppData\Roaming\microsoft\Excel\xlstart\
It sounds like you night have a personal.xlsb in there.

Thank you! It was there, and deleting it eliminated the error!
I have never seen that before :banghead:

It may have been created if you have recorded a macro.
