I have a sheet with a button tied to a macro that runs various Save As routines.

Today, I noticed the gray, bordered part of the button is a fraction of what it was. The text is the same size - and if I hover my mouse over the "phantom" areas where the button was last night, the cursor turns to a pointy finger and the button is active.

I tried going through my Version History, and pulled up backups, and they are all now exhibiting this - even though I know it was fine even just yesterday.

It should be a gray box that extends the width of the text - you know, like a button. Instead it looks like this:

(Panes are frozen on B5. Cell backgrounds are white.)

Thoughts on cause? Fix?

Select data in PDF. Paste to Microsoft Word. Copy from Word and paste to Excel.
It's because it's an ActiveX button, they're notoriously buggy on worksheets. Either swap if for a forms button, or if you want the green text, use a shape and assign the macro to it.

I don't think that's it.

I have had this button in this sheet for years, no problem.

Nevertheless, today I deleted it, created a Forms button (I can format text, but how do I make it "look" like a button - it had no border, no background...?!?), and slid it in place. And that quarter-gray box showed up again. So it looks exactly like the picture I provided in OP.

Hmph.

I'm not sure you added the right thing. You cannot format text on a forms button

That's really weird. It looks buggy to me, do you have any addins running? Is your Excel up to date?

I do have an update that needs installing, but I'm on 1805 build 9307.2004 CTR.

Active Add-ins:
  • Analysis ToolPak
  • Analysis ToolPak - VBA
  • Solver Add-In
  • Tableau

(None of those have changed since I added Tableau about a year ago).
