How can I solve the following problem?

I use SAP to extract reports into Excel spreadsheets. I save this file on my computer, and every time it's saved, it opens the file. I no longer want it to open the saved files from SAP. How can I make this setting?

Excel Facts

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
Exporting from (standard)sap will open the files. Better practice would be a CDS connection. Import with Azure CD connector, or use an oData connector to connect to the CDS.

CDS views could be custom made or standard. It is based on SQL language. It does require some programming skills (go ask IT for this)

Once it is all set, you can just hit refresh data, without using manual exports.

For now I think (not 100% sure) you are bound to Excel files which will open automatically after exporting

In my version of SAP when I select Spreadsheet, it will open in Excel. Local file may be what you want.

This works with me:
I have a macro enable workbook launching a series of consecutive SAP scripts, each downloading data to Export.xlsx.
Upon each launch, the macro starts polling the download folder for Export.xlsx with a timestamp after the launch of the SAP script.
Once it is available, the macro opens Export.xlsx, processes its contents, closes Export.xlsx, deletes it from the folder and launches the next SAP Script.
Except for the final Export.xlsx: after processing its contents, the macro replaces its contents with a message that downloads are ready and this Export.xlsx can be closed. Export.xlsx is closed and saved.
So while the macro is running, Export.xlsx can't be opened automatically.
Once the macro is finished, Export.xlsx is opened automatically (only once), this time stating that downloads are ready.

Note: when testing this macro with break points, Export.xlsx will open automatically when the break point is reached.
Or you get an error message if it was just deleted.

SAP scripting is often disabled within companies. It is actually like a macro recorder in Excel, which is not as robust as the direct CDS connection.
But, if it works it works ; )
