Textbox Spaces not allowed

I'm having a weird problem: If I add a new textbox to an existing form in Excel, I cannot enter a space character in that textbox. All the other characters seem to work. I've tried making a copy of an existing textbox that does work but the new copy won't allow spaces either.

So, a new textbox or a copy of an existing, working textbox will not allow me to enter spaces. I've checked all the properties, comparing working textboxes with non-working textboxes and they match identically.

All existing textboxes seem to be fine.

I'm working in Excel 2013.

Any thoughts?

Can Excel fill bagel flavors?
You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
