text box control source

I'm trying to use an sql statement as the control source for my text box but
I keep getting a name error. The SQL in the control source is as follows:

=(SELECT Sum[Table_Occupants]![GUSF_Academic] AS [tot_academic] FROM [Table_Occupants]

Try the following function instead:

=DSum("GUSF_Academic","Table_Occupants")
